ABOUT US

What is the CPAAA?
CPAAA of Lexington, Kentucky
The Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association (CPAAA) was established in 1997 as an outgrowth of the Citizen Police Academy (CPA). The Citizen Police Academy is a free, dynamic 10-week program designed to foster better communication between citizens and police through education. This program is comprehensive, covering a different area of policing each week. The Lexington Police Department (LPD) has found that education has been most effective in gaining understanding and support from the community. The Citizen Police Academy offers residents insights into how police officers perform their duties and how the department serves the community.
Since 1997, the CPAAA has continually grown and evolved, and as a partnership with the LPD, provides continuing education for it's members, support for the LPD, and promotes mutual trust between the department and the citizens it serves.
Our mission includes education, fundraising and volunteering. Education provides a means to bridge the gap between our citizens and the LPD. By sharing this knowledge, the community can gain a better understanding of how our officers perform their duties and serve their community. Fundraising activities such as the KY 3-Day Event, Road to the Horse, Silent Auction, and this Car Show allow us to support the department in many ways.
